History
Maranatha Bible Church started in 1973 when itinerant evangelist, Rev. David A. MacDonald and his wife Vera and their four children held services in their homes. The congregation was formed in 1975 when a Bible-believing church was needed on the west side of New Glasgow. The people began meeting in a rented hall until the church building (known as Munroe Ave Baptist Church) was built in 1976 by Pastor Dave MacDonald and some of the members. The congregation began to grow and in 1988, a piece was added on to accommodate the growing members.
Pastor Dave MacDonald retired in 1991 as Pastor Emeritus and Assistant Pastor, Doug Campbell became Pastor and served for several years. Pastor Dave MacDonald passed away in 1999 and his son, Tim MacDonald then pastored for 4 years. Pastor Ches MacKenzie came as Interim Pastor for 3 years until the congregation called Pastor Jerry Stearns in 2006. In 2010, 4th year Bible Student, Rick Mitton from NBBI came as Student Pastor and voted in as Assistant Pastor in 2011, serving alongside Pastor Jerry Stearns.
In 2012, the church moved from Munroe Ave, to Abercrombie Rd, changing their name from Munroe Ave Baptist Church to what is now Maranatha Bible Church. The church is involved in Missions with several members going on short-term mission trips. In 2010, the church began a Community Cupboard Ministry of free clothing, housewares and food. The community cupboard was a great outreach to our community but with the sale of the previous building the ministry had closed its doors.
In 2020 Pastor Jerry Stearns retired from full time vocational ministry and stepped into a new season of life. In March of 2021 the church called on Pastor Joe Thibault who serves as our current pastor. God has blessed Maranatha Bible Church through the years as a lighthouse for the Glory of God!
