In thinking about what to write for a blog this week, I felt led to make a change. So this blog is not about His Promises, instead, its about what the title says. Why do we do what we do? There are so many reasons for doing things. We eat because we are hungry, we sleep because we are tired, we listen to music to relax, etc. Everything we do is for a reason. In fact I would say that there is nothing we do that is for no reason. Everything is done for a reason. Even those things which we do that seem nonsensical, or random are done for a purpose.
In saying that, we do many things for the wrong reason. Sometimes I do things simply because I am told to do them. Other times out of spite, or vengeance. There are moments that do things because I am angry or sad. Some things are good things to do, but with the wrong motivation, or the wrong intent. For example, as a child I was asked numerous times to make my bed. Sometimes when I made the bed it was not simply because I was being obedient, but I did it because I was told to; I was not willing. God tells us to do certain things, not to be saved because that is His work and His alone, but to grow in our faith. For example we are commanded to pray (). Why do we pray? Do we pray because we are commanded, or because we are willing? Do we pray out of habit? Or is it because it is the thing to do to be spiritual?
I believe the reason we are do things is for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. In I Corinthians 10:31, we are told by God through the Apostle Paul that God's Glory should be our only motivation. our sole concern, the only reason we do anything. We get dressed in the morning for His glory! We eat for His glory! We listen to music for His glory! We tell jokes for His glory! We show our family that we love them for His glory! We go to work for His glory! We play games for Hid glory! We pray for His glory! We read His Word for His glory! We meet together as believers for His glory! Everything we do, say, or think should be with His glory in mind. t
